Ruksana Sardar-AkramRuksana Sardar-Akram has worked over eleven years in a Health Inequalities and Public Health role in Airedale, Bradford, Calderdale, Dewsbury, Huddersfield and more recently Wakefield. Having gained a Masters and Postgraduate Diploma in Health Promoting Practice, her background has essentially been concerned with improving health and well being in socially deprived and BME areas. The best part of her role has been addressing inequalities and bridging the gap between services and the communities we live and work in, both at operational and strategic level. This has been a great challenge, particularly when we look at the differences and determinants which influence the health of our communities. Her role has also been a very rewarding one – especially when there has been health gain and change in the way we deliver services. Ruksana also works with other NHS Trusts and various Organisations to deliver training and consultancy in order to create culturally competent workforces responsive to the needs of our diverse communities.
