Workshops: A New Era for Local Democracy:The Challenges for Local People and Local Residents

This three day workshop is targeted towards young people interested in participating in their
community and local residents with a desire for greater involvement. The workshop aims to give
greater understanding of the mechanics of local democracy, structures, partnerships and how to
be effectively involved. At the end of each day participants will be given a task to perform
(not greatly time consuming) which will give them an extra insight into their own community.

Sustainable Communities Training Programme

New Sustainable Communities programme, run by Inspire East in partnership with Anglia Ruskin University.

The programme has a number of attractions:
-Introductory courses run by Inspire East.
- Flexible, modular structure (delegates can attend as few, or as many, of the modules as they like) run by Anglia Ruskin
University.
- Online Sustainable Communities reading
- Competitively priced: £95 public and private sector, £60 voluntary sector (attend all 8 modules and get the 8th free).
- Alignment to the Excellence Framework, an online toolkit used by EEDA to appraise funding applications and grounded in
current government policy and good practice.
- Cross-disciplinary approach to sustainable communities agenda enabling delegates to see how their role fits in
the 'bigger picture'.

Understanding and using an outcomes focus

Course 1: 22nd February and 17th March
Course 2: 14th April and 12th May

If so, you'll be interested in this free training course for voluntary and
community organisations.

* Learn how to assess your effectiveness
* Learn about what works, to improve your services.
* Increase morale for staff and users by showing that change is happening.
* Demonstrate to funders that you are making a difference.

These courses are part of a national programme of over 120 similar courses.
The programme, which is run by Charities Evaluation Services and funded by
the Big Lottery Fund, aims to help voluntary and community organisations
develop knowledge and skills in using an outcomes focus.

Minority Ethnic Women Business Start Up Seminars (MEWBS) are free business seminars for women only being run by Leeds Thomas Danby and ABDN Minority Ethnic Enterprise Network.

They are for Minority Ethnic Women who are interested in starting their own business, and include presentations from a range of local business women, guest speakers and networking opportunities.

The events are free of charge and childcare may be available.

Steps to Success free business course

Steps to Success is a free 10-week business course for potential business start ups being run by Leeds Thomas Danby and ABDN Minority Ethnic Enterprise Network.

The training will work towards you writing your own business plan and covers finance and numeracy skills, marketing, legal issues, E-commerce and IT, staff recruitment and Enterprising Ethnic Entrepreneurs presentations.

It starts on Monday 30 October 2006 for 10 weeks and runs from 6-9pm.
