This event will be looking at how local people from Black, Minority and Ethnic Communities can get involved in community and citizen governance roles. These roles include school governors, magistrates, elected members, and being a member of Wakefield and District
Housing's Board or Local Management Committees amongst others.

Speakers include:
Dr Abdullah Bari, Chair of the Muslim Council of Britain
Councillor Olivia Rowley, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Community Safety and Cohesion

Meet the Buyer 2007, Wakefield Council’s fourth annual Meet the Buyer event, will take place on Thursday 15th November 2007 at Pontefract Racecourse, Pontefract which is half a mile from Junction 32 of the M62.

All local and regional companies are invited to attend the event to find out how to bid for contracts to supply good and services to the Council. This is your opportunity to meet many of the Council’s buyers face to face.

Building on the success of Meet the Buyer 2006, this years event will see representation from a wide range of pubic sector organisations and will provide networking and refreshment facilities along with presentations on a range of topics. A detailed list of exhibitors and presentations will be available for download from this site shortly.

a seminar organised by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) West Yorkshire, West Yorkshire Police and Calderdale Council.

The seminar is the first in a series of community engagement events to be undertaken with the Muslim and wider community over the coming year which will enable partners to explain their decision making processes and exchange information around issues which we recognise are of concern to people in Calderdale. These include:
• The prosecution of racially and religiously aggravated cases; and
• The prosecution of terrorist cases.

Speakers at the Seminar will include representatives from the Criminal Justice agencies with responsibility for and experience in handling and managing serious crime cases, including: Neil Franklin, Chief Crown Prosecutor for West Yorkshire; Sue Hemming; Head of Counter Terrorism Division, CPS Headquarters; Ebrahim Dockrat; Independent Chair, Hate Crime Scrutiny Panel; and a West Yorkshire Police Representative. Local speakers will include Kersten England, Group Director for Community Services at Calderdale Council and Councillor Mohammed Najib.
